849 Naval Air Squadron

Memorial Stone on the Move

During 2008 the Squadron will move from their base "cabins" (the cabins can be seen on photos of the memorial stone) to another and more illustrious, if not yet constructed,  building on the other side of the airfield.  In line with this plan the Squadron have elected to move the Memorial Stone to RNAS Culdrose's memorial garden which is opposite the Seahawk 'gate-guard' aircraft adjacent to the wardroom of the main gate.

The pictures below provide a visual tale of the job of re-siting the Stone which was done over the course of September 2007.  The final photo shows the Memorial Stone in its new setting.  We have been told the benches will also be re-sited in order to allow them to continue to provide a seat for quiet reflection beside the Stone.

The Memorial Stone was officially re-consecrated during the Remembrance Day Service at Culdrose.  The Service took place at 11.00am on Monday 12th November, 20007.
